The Drummer's Companion
The Drummer's Companion is the first library of pipe tune recordings made specifically for drummers performed by world champion piper Bruce Gandy. Bruce is known throughout the world as a gifted solo piper and has won countless awards across North America and Scotland. Bruce is also highly respected as a band player having won the World Pipe Band Championships with the 78th Fraser Highlanders in 1987. Because of both his solo and band experience, Bruce was the ideal choice to record tunes for drummers. Besides being incredibly musical, his recordings achieve the perfect balance of expression and groove and are a valuable tool for any competition snare drummer.
The idea behind The Drummer's Companion is that drummers need to get used to playing with a pipe tune that is expressed properly. Because the nature of the bagpipe does not allow changes in dynamics, pipers express their music by holding certain notes (giving them extra weight) all the while maintaining the tempo and groove of the tune. The best solo drummers are able to match this "ebb and flow" and are able to express the music exactly with the piping. You will notice this expression in all of Bruce's tracks.
Some of Bruce's tracks are recorded faster than standard MSR tempos. Because of this, I offer a "tempo adjustment service" included with the price of the download. Simply email me your download, request a certain tempo (e.g. 72 beats per minute) and I'll email you the track played at that exact tempo.
